The Power of Knowing Your Values

Have you ever taken the time to clearly define your values?

Not just the words that sound good on a list—but the deeper meaning behind them. The feeling they evoke. The role they play in guiding how you live and lead.

When my clients tell me that the values work we do together has completely changed their daily lives, I know we’ve moved the mark to intentionality.

What’s fascinating is that this realization doesn’t only happen with people early in their lives. I’ve seen it with highly accomplished individuals preparing for retirement and industry leading executives.

Even they are often surprised by the clarity that emerges when they slow down long enough to truly define their values.  The word.  The meaning behind it.  The feeling it represents.  When that level of clarity begins to take shape, something powerful happens.

Moments that once felt confusing suddenly make more sense.

That uneasy feeling in a meeting?
The quiet frustration after a decision?
The deep sense of satisfaction when something feels right?

Those moments aren’t random.  They’re signals.

Your values are speaking—quietly guiding how you respond, how you act, how you think, and even how you feel in different situations.

When you become aware of that inner guidance system, your values begin to serve as something incredibly important:

A compass.

They help you navigate decisions.  They help you recognize alignment—or the lack of it.
They help you stay grounded when circumstances become challenging.  And sometimes, your values are tested.  That’s when their power becomes even clearer.

As organizational psychologist Adam Grant reminds us:

“If you reach a goal by compromising your values, you haven’t succeeded. If you fall short of a goal by upholding your values, you haven’t failed. The highest form of accomplishment is standing by your principles when you are tested.”

Goals matter. Achievement matters.  But how we reach those goals matters just as much—if not more.  When your values are clearly defined, they help you move through the world with greater clarity, confidence, and integrity.

They help you make decisions that align with who you truly are.

And that alignment is where real fulfillment lives.

Hi, I’m Carla Hale.

I begin every coaching journey with my clients by exploring their core values. That clarity becomes a powerful tool we return to again and again—not only in our coaching conversations, but in the everyday decisions they face in life and leadership.

Your values can become a compass for how you navigate the world.

If you’re ready to discover what truly guides you—and unlock the power that comes with that clarity—let’s connect.
