Thankfulness and Boundaries: Honoring What You Value
We often think of thankfulness as appreciation for what we have—but rarely do we connect it to what we protect. Because here’s the truth: you can’t be truly thankful for something you’re not willing to prioritize. And prioritizing requires boundaries.
From a coaching perspective, boundaries are simply the external expression of your internal values. They define what you will and won’t tolerate. Where your energy goes. What gets your time and attention. And yet, so many of us struggle here. We say yes when we mean no. We overextend. We tolerate situations, behaviors, and expectations that quietly pull us out of alignment. And then we wonder why we feel drained… disconnected… even resentful.
So let’s pause and ask a different kind of question: What in your life are you truly thankful for—and are your current choices reflecting that? Because if you’re thankful for your family, but your time is constantly consumed elsewhere, there’s a gap. If you’re thankful for your wellbeing, but you’re consistently running on empty, there’s a gap. If you’re thankful for meaningful work, but you’re filling your days with tasks that don’t create impact, there’s a gap.
And that gap? That’s where boundaries belong. So where do you need to set one? What are you currently tolerating that’s costing you more than you realize? What would it look like to protect what you say matters most—with the same energy you use to protect everything else? Because thankfulness without action is just a thought. But thankfulness with boundaries? That’s alignment in motion.
Hi, I’m Carla Hale.
I know what it feels like to say yes in ways that slowly pull you out of alignment—and I also know the power of setting boundaries that bring you back. Now, I help others do the same: honor what matters, protect their energy, and create space for what truly fulfills them.
