The Decisions Your Future Self Is Waiting On
What would your 10-years-from-now self thank you for starting today?
Not next quarter. Not when things calm down. Not when you have more clarity, more resources, or someone finally gives you permission.
Today. Right now!
It’s a simple question—but when you really sit with it, it has a way of cutting through the noise. Because over the past several weeks, we’ve been exploring questions that weren’t just meant to be thought about… they were meant to be lived:
- What would it look like to approach your wellbeing with the same intention you bring to your work?
- What are you tolerating that’s costing you more than you realize?
- What would you attempt if you knew you couldn’t fail?
- What conversation are you avoiding that, if you had it, would change your current trajectory?
- Who do you need to become to achieve what you say you want?
These aren’t separate ideas. They’re connected. They’re all pointing to the same thing: the choices you’re making right now are shaping the life you’ll be living later.
From a coaching perspective, this is where awareness meets responsibility. Because once you see it—you can’t unsee it. You begin to recognize the patterns, the hesitations, the moments where you’re choosing comfort over alignment, avoidance over action, or delay over decision. And none of that makes you wrong. It makes you human. But it also gives you an opportunity.
So let’s take it one step further.
Imagine yourself 10 years from now. Not in a vague, abstract way—but clearly. Specifically. Who are you? How do you lead? How do you feel in your life, your work, your relationships? What boundaries are in place? What are you no longer tolerating? What have you built, created, or stepped into, that once felt out of reach?
Now look back at today—this exact moment.
What would that version of you be grateful you started?
Would it be the conversation you’ve been avoiding because it feels uncomfortable? The boundary you’ve been hesitant to set because you don’t want to disrupt anything? The decision to prioritize your wellbeing instead of pushing through one more time? The risk you’ve been holding back from taking because the outcome isn’t guaranteed?
Or maybe it’s something even deeper.
Maybe it’s letting go of the version of yourself that no longer aligns with where you’re going. The one that overextends. That stays quiet. That waits for the “right time.”
Because here’s the truth: your future self isn’t built on big, dramatic moments.
She’s built on small, intentional choices made consistently over time.
Choices to speak up.
To step forward.
To set boundaries.
To act in alignment with what matters most—even when it’s uncomfortable.
So what are you choosing today?
Are you reinforcing the life you have… or creating the life you want?
Because every time you delay something you know matters, you’re not just pausing progress—you’re practicing staying the same.
And every time you take a step—no matter how small—you’re casting a vote for the person you’re becoming.

Hi, I’m Carla Hale.
Eight years ago, I sat with this exact question. It was two years after surviving a near-fatal car accident, and right after completing a leadership program that challenged me to think deeply about my life’s purpose. That moment of reflection gave me clarity—not just on what I wanted, but on who I needed to become to create it.
And that clarity changed everything.
It led me to pursue my coaching certification, start my own business, and intentionally design a life aligned with my values and purpose. Looking back now, I can honestly say—my future self is already thanking me for the choices I made in that season.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin.
You just need to start.
